The Winter is Coming - White Walkers by Bakirasan The Winter is Coming - White Walkers by Bakirasan
From the fantasy books of George R. R. Martin, A song of Fire and Ice, I painted how I imagined the White Walkers. For me they always seem to be some kind of undead army. Fallen warriors from the ancient times.

'The Others are not dead. They are strange, beautiful… think, oh… the Sidhe made of ice, something like that… a different sort of life… inhuman, elegant, dangerous.' Said by George R. R. Martin himself hahaha.

Sidhe, if you don't know, is like some kind of Irish race of fairies or elves. I don't blame you though, most people imagine them as this undead zombie-ish things. I would love to see an artwork of what Martin describes, none of the ones I've seen look like the descriptions. What do you think?

BTW, awesome job =D

Thanks for the comment!
Its good to know how The Others must really look like, described by George R. R. Martin himself. I think I was influenced by the HBO series and other fantasy books maybe. But when I read the book it never gave me the idead of something like frozen elves. Until now I never heard more detailed descriptions. For sure I will paint something based on this information! :D

The Others themselves are alien looking creatures, some in times past were even elegant in appearance, but of course it's hard to visual what George Martin himself imagined, but he has signed off on the show's interpretation.   (minor show spoiler) They showed one of the actual 'Others' in tonight's episode of Game of Thrones actually, but they do have undead servants called 'Wights' which is excellently depicted here, and that we saw en masse on the season finale of Game of Thrones second season.   I think the show doesn't really make the same distinction between the Wights and the Others as the books do, in that, on the show, they are pretty much ALL referred to and thought of as White Walkers.

That aside, this a marvelous piece of White Walker art, and it's definitely going in my favorites! :D

I always saw 'The Others' / 'White Walkers' as a cross between zombies and vampires. (traditional monstrous vampires, not the twilight kind)

Very scary, and I love this grotesquely fabulous imagery you have here.

I like it! It's closer to how I imagine them than what the tv show gave us (though the eyes are shinier in my mind).
Your drawing itself is really nice.
